Call for Art

Not a web log, not a journal, not me, not much.   Some passing thoughts, quotes, and images - always - good for nothing.  - Mr. Oland

The world of creation being the good-for nothing world, it belongs to anyone with creativeness, that is to say anyone claiming his natural birth-gift:  good for nothingness.   - Robert Filiou

SISYPHUS SURROUNDS; FAUX FRUSTRATE; CLASSES COMMENCE

Long hours reworking text for E-Circle. When it comes to graphics, Oland can never pull away. Fabric is cut, sewn, and text print-outs almost complete. The karmic turntable inside the piece is coming along too. Will it all be finished to Oland's satisfaction.......? Dunno. Will stay tuned.

Faux Chats' reluctance to communicate on travel issues leads to awareness of anxiety. Is there time to do road trip with all that's going on? Dunno. Will stay tuned.

Like diving into a tank of icewater! Classes began this week...Then after 4 days....wasn't it more like 4 weeks?

Feet are like 2 blocks of ice. Now for a hot bath. Willl stay tuned. Aaaaaah!

MOI? AN ART SNOB?

Am reading Ken Wilber (One Taste) and have had strong reactions - repelled and attracted. Last night flipping through the book, read something he had written about Alex Gray (Grey?). Being a terrible art snob - was immediately tempted to dismiss them both. What is it about Gray that bothers me so much?

It really has nothing to do with being an art snob. Don't want visual images of spirituality spelled out. VISUAL POETRY CONTAINS THE HIGHEST TRUTH - at least for me. Gray hands it all to the viewer on a platter - with, of course, virtuosity of technque.

(Maybe art snob is just someone with strong opinions. For that I qualify - however, am willing to examine and flex ie see Kinkade comments below.)

Wilber's diagrams bother me in a similar way. But some of his ideas have opened me - especially the discussion of Original Face and dreamless sleep.

There's someone else who is exciting. Well, that's probably not the right word - maybe interesting is better. His name is Kinkade and apparently a LOT of people love his work. He was presented in a book I'm using for my Portfolio class. (Just happened to see one of his calendars in K-Mart yesterday!) He is trying to reach as many people as possible and is someone to whom I'd never give a second thought or look usually. He's also raking in money! Love the idea of presenting such a guy and his work in my class.

Tomorrow classes DO begin; Faux road trip the following week; shortly after show at King Art Center. Each text part of Ephyrian Circle is going to be printed on it own length of cheesecloth - which will hang from ceiling in 3 semi-circular rows. Installation excitement - won't know how it actually looks until I install it....yikes!

Gorgeous sunny day. Will run and enjoy. Heart is full!
