Call for Art

Not a web log, not a journal, not me, not much.   Some passing thoughts, quotes, and images - always - good for nothing.  - Mr. Oland

The world of creation being the good-for nothing world, it belongs to anyone with creativeness, that is to say anyone claiming his natural birth-gift:  good for nothingness.   - Robert Filiou

but few know that the ocean merges into the drop.

oland report

Atlanta was good, very relaxing. Found the best b&b in Virginia Highlands - felt like being at home but not - in the best possible way!

"Fingers+Codes the Contemporary Portrait" opening was packed, and show disappointed. Some work was fabulous - an Asian man painted himself as Queen Victoria, an on-going real-time journal, and some interesting small 2-D stuff.

Eyedrum is a fairly raw space - however that doesn't have to mean no creativity when installing work. 2-D pieces were lined up along one wall. My piece was crowded by and crowded other 3-d art. There was no syncopation, so everything, well - in my inflated opinion - could have looked better. Also - god forbid!! Some of the labels were crooked. (Mine!) Gasp!

After - we went to Ann's for a gathering. Enjoyed the conversation. On Sunday after a glorious run and breakfast, saw exhibit of needlework by a Polish Holocaust survivor. Simply brilliant craft, composition, art used to tell a remarkable story.

Chuck has quit his job. Amazing! He'd had enough. It takes courage to do such things. As he said, it seemed like fate was making the way easier, or showing him the way.

Now a day to recharge before installing the Portfolio show at the Wedge this week.

Joyful lightness.
Metta!

forget anxiety

Strange dream last night. Believed it totally. Think it belongs in "anxiety dreams" category.

So here it is -
Must get back to where I work - soon. Can't wait for the others.
A few of us have broken away and are driving from California to ???

Don't know because I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I WORK. Know I
worked at Illinois State University. Know that was in Normal Illinois,
and that was where I worked just before my current position.
But where is present job?

Try to recall name of university, state, or city and can't.
In Washington?
No.
Oregon?
No.
California?
No.
Malaise! Dream thought: God! Maybe this is beginning of Alzheimer's. Maybe I've got it!

It's funny now that I'm "awake" and very -not fun or funny while dreaming it.
Time to "forget" WCU?

inside the breath

O SERVANT, where dost thou seek Me.
Lo! I am beside thee.
I am neither in temple nor in mosque:
I am neither in Kaaba nor in Kailash:
Neither am I in rites and ceremonies,
nor in Yoga and renunciation.
If thou art a true seeker,
thou shalt at once see Me:
thou shalt meet Me in a moment of time.
Kabîr says, "O Sadhu! God is the breath inside the breath."
- Kabir

Kabir is an Indian saint and poet who lived in 15th C.

Perfect for the Indian theme of this weekend. Daal, bhat, chole dinner and 3 movies in Hindi - "Fire", "Water", (2 of Deepa Mehta's trilogy) and "In Custody" shared with fellow Indophile, Sara. "Water" is visually lovely and moving - emotions ripple through heart even now.

Warm, sunny day. Enjoyed outside, lounging in running shorts on picnic bench with Binky - both of us watching Lola chase bumble bees on the lawn today. Such glorious leaps and enthusiastic stalking! Binky is the wise elder who knows the futility of such pursuits.

Seems ages since having a full night's sleep. Can barely focus on the NY Times or anything for that matter. Most of the crazy-busy days will be over this week. Today has been a lovely haven of quiet. May it be the beginning of many...

salaaam

Woke up this morning to an inch of snow and temperature below 20 degrees! What happened to summer? It was in the high 70's a few days ago.

Going to bundle up, run, and go to studio. Must inspect how "Spinal Self" has fared since last time it was exhibited. It's been curated into a show and am not sure it's fit. The rubber in the spine part has torn in places and is no longer stretchy.

Surprise day off this week (Easter week) - no class on Thursday. So welcome because still catching up with so many things. Long for a few days when I can do nothing, maybe even explore concept of boredom.

Tea with Sara yesterday - full of laughter and insight. Patrick and Lidia back from Venice with lots of great stories as always.

Daydreaming about a trip to Morocco....

Metta.
